In 2009, my father passed away from cancer only three weeks after the diagnosis. Five months earlier I watched an elderly friend take her last breath. I questioned my life goals and purpose while feeling my mortality.
My current job utilized my management and problems solving skills, but something was missing – creativity. My technical communication and multimedia degrees as well as my diploma in web design felt like a waste of my time and especially money.
“What do you really want to do?” Lynne Hamilton, my roommate, asked one day.
“I’d love to start a company or become a writer,” I responded. Over the years I’ve had many business ideas but didn’t take action to develop any of them beyond hobbies. So Lynne and I began thinking about a business we could do together that utilized both of our skills and passion to help others.
